JOB DEFINITION: The Maintenance Supervisor will supervise and direct maintenance employees in machine and facility repair, schedule and control a preventative maintenance program, plan a continual work schedule, inspect equipment and repairs, supervisor employee functions such as scheduling, hiring, and discipline while maintaining good employee relations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Advise Manager and other assigned employees in the performance of tasks required for completion of scheduled and emergency maintenance / facility work.
  • Meets specified operational safety, quality and quantity standards of performance.
  • Assists the Maintenance group to:
  • Troubleshoot and repair automated equipment
  • Perform equipment failure analysis, repairs and preventative maintenance procedures
  • Interact with outside vendors for equipment installations and hardware upgrades
  • Perform project work as assigned
  • Troubleshoot and analyze problem machinery, equipment, utility and wax handling/process systems.
  • Assist Engineering and/or other technical groups in the selection of, installation of, and optimization of, new and/or relocated production or process equipment.
  • Evaluate manufacturing equipment, processes, control systems/logic, materials and components. Make recommendations for improvements and implement as required.

 

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform a wide variety of skilled maintenance tasks (preventative maintenance, assembly, repair, adjustment, installation, fabrication, and modification), to production and plant equipment, utility systems, buildings, material handling system, lift trucks, company vehicles.
  • Work from manuals, prints, drawings, sketches and written/verbal instructions
  • Maintain storage of stock supplies and notifies maintenance management of improper equipment conditions, faulty equipment, unsafe conditions, defective materials, unusual conditions and low / out-of-stock conditions. Notify maintenance management of need for additional tooling, machining operations and other corrective actions.
  • Install/relocate (including rigging) plant equipment/fixtures and utility systems; conduit, wiring, air piping/hoses, plumbing, distribution boxes, controls, etc. associated with the installation/relocation.
  • Move material or equipment as necessary in the performance of tasks or as directed; occasionally operate various materials handling equipment.
  • Instruct and coordinate the work of assigned personnel and perform other related tasks as required, or as directed by supervision/management.
  • Reports deficiencies in quantity or quality of work produced, slow work pace, and inability to work well with others, to Maintenance Manager and address with the employee in question.
  • Provides input / opinions to Manager, to assist in the preparation of annual performance reviews for personnel. Supervisor has responsibility for the preparation and presentation of review to each employee.
  • Develop written Documentation of Procedures for use by others, including Preventative Maintenance (PM) procedures, standard operating procedures (SOP's), and training documentation.       May work alone or in conjunction with teams.
  • Responsible for specified record keeping (computerized & manual) and purchase requisitions, in assigned areas of responsibility. Maintain maintenance management system records as required
  • Use AutoCAD, Excel, Word, JD Edwards and other computer programs to prepare and/or maintain drawings, develop reports, files and documentation, as required to support work, projects, and maintain departmental records/documentation.
  • Ability to plan, organize and manage multiple and conflicting priorities
  • Must be able to express himself/herself effectively, both verbally and in writing. Excellent written and verbal communication skills

 

EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES: Includes but not limited to: Maintenance shop equipment (lathes, drill press, grinders, milling machine, saws, and welders), portable hand and power tools, precision tools, calculator, wiring diagrams, blueprints, manuals (parts & maintenance), electrical test equipment, material handling equipment and maintenance supplies used in performing installation/modification and/or repair tasks. Desk and/or laptop computers.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Works inside in a normal, inside factory work environment, variable heating, cooling, drafts, operating machinery/equipment noises.
  • Works outside in all weather conditions; extremes of heat and cold, all forms of precipitation.
  • Subject to coming in contact with oils and greases and warm/hot surfaces, from work performed on plant equipment and processes.
  • Exposed to variable intensities of heat from waxes, steam jacketed kettles higher ambient concentration of wax odors/candle scents requiring operation of exhaust system for removal from operating area.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (provided by Company) when welding, while troubleshooting or working on live electrical systems, in and around all work centers and in all areas with a high noise level

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY & DEMANDS:

  • Stands and/or walks 50%, sits 50%.
  • Considerable visual acuity exercised to monitor equipment operation / product output and quality and crew activities, and to make required tests, reports, and requests to management, operations, maintenance and quality control.
  • Must be able to stand on a concrete floor for extended periods of time, up to the entire shift.
  • Must have the ability lift 50 pounds without assistance and 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, stretch, twist, and reach out with the body, arms, and/or legs as required to perform work on machines / equipment.
  • Climbs over/under equipment / machinery to gain access for maintenance.
  • Climbs access stairs and/or ladders to top of prill towers, wax/water/storage tanks, plant roof, and elevated maintenance platforms to inspect, evaluate and perform maintenance work.
  • Handles heavy power tools, equipment and machinery parts
  • May work in cramped and confined areas.

TRAINING & EDUCATION:

  • One hundred twenty (120) hours to become oriented to operational setting.
  • (25) to (30) months onthejobtraining to reach level of proficiency required for adequate performance of assigned tasks.
  • 2 year Associates Degree in a technical field is preferred.
  • Must pass Bennett Mechanical, Valpar Independent Problem Solving, Blueprint Reading, Electrical Circuitry and Mechanical Aptitude maintenance assessments.
  • Must be computer literate; familiar with Microsoft software products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have a valid Ohio driver's license.

Must have a High School diploma or GED.

Associates Degree in a technical field is preferred.

Must be able to work any 10-hour shift, up to 6 days a week as needed.

Must be able to obtain a Candle-lite Powered Industrial Truck License.

Must have the ability to move quickly to respond to situations.

Must be a forward thinking individual with the ability to anticipate rather than react.

Must be able to work effectively with people at all levels within the organization

Prefer one year lead experience.
