POSITION SUMMARY:

Administers the Company's wax transfer and batch control procedures. Have direct reports that implement the policies and procedures of the wax and batch control department.

Key Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assumes responsibility for Dye Room kitting, remelt assignment, and wax transfer to the tank farm and to the production floor.
  • Plan daily rail moves and blending activities in the tank farm.
  • Enter all transfer and blending activities into all necessary internal and external tracking and inventory systems.
  • Work daily with PIC, Purchasing, and Management to coordinate wax purchases and deliveries necessary to provide a steady supply of wax as needed for production.
  • Monitor inventory accuracy to ensure compliance with insurance limits while meeting production requirements.
  • Plan and direct the work activities for employees in these functions.
  • Implement improvement and changes in procedures, wax batching and verification of wax formulas and remelt use.
  • Supervise, train, coach, and teach Wax and Batch Control group personnel.
  • Interpret company policies to employees and enforce safety regulations.
  • Monitor, recommend, and drive changes to measures for continuous improvement of performance in these areas.
  • Engage in improving Safety, Quality, 6S, Manufacturing and plant communications.
  • Promote teamwork. Be a team player. Support and participate in organizational initiatives.
  • Interact with supervisorsw from all other departments to determine and resolves Wax & Batch Control group related issues.
  • Interpret product drawings, specifications, and job orders.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must have a valid state Drivers' License
  • Verifiable results of improving quality and wax and batch control systems required.
  • Must be able to work from product drawings, specifications, and job orders.
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft software products with ability to spreadsheet data and compose reports.
  • Prefer experience working with chemicals, transferring hot liquids, scheduling, and inventory control in a fast-pace manufacturing environment.
  • Prefer a college degree in related field and/or previous lead/supervisory experience (prefer 3-5 years) in a manufacturing environment.

Knowledge, Skill & Abilities

  • Working knowledge of computer software (Windows, Office, Word, Excel).
  • Working Knowledge of JDEdwards System and Kronos Time and Attendance.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have a passionate ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple and conflicting priorities.
  • Must be a motivator, problem solver, and coach.
  • Must be a forward thinking, self-motivated, driven, and engaged team player.
  • Must have the ability to work any shift and overtime as needed.
  • Must have working knowledge of computers, copier, and other office machinery.

Physical Demands, Including Travel

  • Stands and/or walks 80-90% on a concrete floor, sits 10-20% of the work time. Exercises considerable visual acuity during the manufacturing process.
  • Must be able to move about the plant freely to include navigating steps. Uses both hands and feet to actuate control levers and pedals while driving truck, operating lifting apparatus to pick up unit loads of candles/packaging raw materials for transport to, placing in/on storage racks/conveyors.
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds without assistance and 75 pounds with assistance
  • Must have precise coordinated movements of the fingers of both hands to grasp and manipulate small objects
  • Must make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, stretch, twist, and reach out with the body, arms, and/or legs
  • Crawl under wax delivery vehicle connect/disconnect steam/wax pumping hoses dragged to/from connecting points.
  • Climb ladder to top of carrier to secure wax samples.
  • Climb stairways (25') to tops of storage tanks, makes visual check of contents/secures wax samples. Climb steps to reach platforms adjacent to batching/blending tanks, kettles, carrying wax formulation additives by hand/bag/bucket.
  • Lift, handle, bagged stearic, polyethylene weighing 60-75 pounds, buckets of liquified ingredients weighing up to 35 pounds.
  • Use hand tools such as brooms, shovels, ice scrapers, pick axes to break loose spilled, leaked hardened wax for clean-up/housekeeping purposes.
  • Frequent visual acuity required reading gauges, opening/closing valves, entering wax handling/processing data, making visual judgements matching colors to standards.
  • Must be able to reach out with the body, arms, and/or legs;
  • Must have the ability to match or detect differences between colors, including shades of color and brightness.

Work Environment

A normal, inside, factory work environment, variable heating, cooling, drafts, operating machinery/equipment noises. Some outside work required for grounds and upkeep. Exposed to variable intensities of heat from equipment/melted waxes, odors from candle scents.
